More Niobrara Drilling
Niobrara Gas Field
Yuma County, Colorado  T3N R48W
1/10 Mile Grid
Iodine Survey
This survey was run prior to the development of this Niobrara structure.
Drilling has continued in this area finding more Niobrara gas. The dry hole
in the NW of 35 was a old shutin that would now be a producer. Current
drilling is displayed below.
Honestly the structure is not well defined by the geochemistry. Four of the eight wells are not covered
by anomalies. Even assuming a halo, one of the wells remains outside the halo. On the other hand all
three wells in section 35 are covered by anomalies and all have been completed. This survey is not
nearly as definitive as the other
Niobrara example. Additionally for an agricultural area this background
is extremely low and the anomalies are so subtle that collection and analytical errors could be issues.
More data may be necessary before the utility of geochemical tools for tracking the Niobrara in this
area can be determined.
