How To
This section will provide information useful to those wishing to do their own
geochemical survey collection or to train someone to collect for them. These tips
are based on more than 20 years of collection experience and although at its root
collecting soil samples is very simple, staying organized and maintaining
consistency is crucial. Most of the tips attempt to convey the importance of
simplifying the collection process for the person in the field. Labeling bags in the
field may seem easy enough but in reality not only are errors far more likely but
even increasing the time it takes to collect each sample by a small amount can
add significantly to the time spent in the field. If you are collecting 100 samples
and writing on each bag and each sample takes an additional three minutes this
increases collection time by 5 hours. Systematically labeling 100 bags, using the
method in this section, takes 25 minutes.
